Bobby Dodd Athletic Director Award
Coach Bobby Dodd was a highly successful Head Football Coach at Georgia Tech for 22 years, but he was also the Athletics Director at Georgia Tech for 26 years. As Athletics Director, he was a positive influence on student-athletes, emphasizing their success in the classroom and in the community. In 1976, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award was established to honor a Division 1A football coach whose programs represent quality on and off the field. Each year, the selected coach must have a successful season, and he also must exhibit his dedication to academic excellence and sense of duty to the community. The Division 1A Athletic Directors' Association has established the Bobby Dodd Athletic Direct Award to recognize the athletics director of the school whose coach won the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award. This is a special recognition because it is necessary for the athletics director and athletics staff to create programs to support the welfare and academic prowess of student-athletes, so the coaches can make such achievement a priority as well.
